Due to a USGA rule, Tiger could not serve as Charlie’s caddie and was only able to support him as a spectator. Charlie shot a 10-over 80 on Tuesday, finishing 22 over through two rounds, and missed the cut.
Charlie, who earned his spot in the 264-player field last month, finished near the bottom. Despite a solid start on day two, a storm delay and subsequent struggles, including a triple bogey on the par-4 18th, affected his performance.
The top 64 players advance to match play, but Charlie did not make the cut. The tournament usually draws a few hundred fans, but Charlie and his famous father attracted a larger crowd. Tiger, who joined his son in Detroit after missing the cut at the Open, was surrounded by fans and police officers.
Charlie, who will soon start his sophomore year of high school in Florida, qualified for the tournament by shooting a one-under 71. Tiger, who was 14 when he first qualified for the US Junior, is the only player to have won the tournament three times in a row in the early 1990s.
