Rafael Nadal delivered one of his best performances of the year, defeating Britain’s Cameron Norrie 6-4, 6-4 to reach the quarter-finals of the Swedish Open in Bastad. Nadal, who is also competing in the men’s doubles semi-finals with Casper Ruud, is preparing for the upcoming Olympics in Paris.
Nadal expressed his satisfaction with his performance, noting that it had been a while since he last played on tour. He acknowledged the need to play more aggressively at times but was pleased with his overall game, especially his forehand and serve.
The match saw both players holding serve in the first six games until Nadal capitalized on Norrie’s errors to break and take a 4-3 lead. Despite an early setback in the second set, where Nadal required treatment on his left arm, he rallied from a 4-1 deficit to win five consecutive games and secure the victory.
Nadal will face Argentina’s Mariano Navone in the quarter-finals on Friday at 12pm, live on Sky Sports Tennis.
