Smilla Sundell, the youngest world champion in ONE Championship history, didn’t envision herself stepping into the ring. Yet now, at just 19 years old, she reigns as the ONE Women’s Strawweight Muay Thai world champion, poised to defend her title against Natalya Dyachkova at ONE Fight Night 22 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Sundell’s ascent to the top has been nothing short of remarkable. From becoming the WBC’s top-ranked women’s Muay Thai competitor at 16 to clinching the ONE Championship title at 17, she has emerged as a force to be reckoned with in combat sports.
Growing up in Sweden, Sundell stumbled upon Muay Thai during a family holiday in Thailand. Reluctant at first, she found herself thrust into the ring against her will, only to discover a passion for victory that fueled her journey to becoming a world champion.
Despite initial doubts and challenges, Sundell’s determination and talent shone through, leading her to triumph in her debut fight and subsequently claiming the ONE Championship title with unparalleled skill and tenacity.
Her success has not been without sacrifice. When her family decided to move back to Sweden, Sundell faced a pivotal decision: pursue her dreams in Muay Thai or return to a conventional path. Opting for the former, she relocated to Thailand, where she found her home in the sport and embarked on a journey of greatness.
Supported by her family, particularly her father who serves as one of her cornermen, Sundell has overcome obstacles and doubts to carve out her place in the world of combat sports.
With her sights set on further glory, Sundell aims to inspire the next generation of female fighters while pursuing her goal of becoming a world champion in kickboxing, MMA, and Muay Thai.
As she prepares to defend her title against Dyachkova, Sundell remains undeterred in her quest for world domination, fueled by her unwavering passion and relentless determination.
