By Chelsea’s planned transfer for Atletico Madrid’s forward Samu Omorodion has fallen through due to contractual issues, causing a ripple effect that has put Conor Gallagher’s move to Atletico and Julian Alvarez’s transfer to the Spanish club into doubt.
Chelsea had initially agreed on a £34.5m deal for Omorodion, which was supposed to facilitate Gallagher’s £36m transfer to Atletico Madrid. Gallagher even completed a medical and was seen at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium, indicating that the deal was near completion. However, with the breakdown of the Omorodion deal, Gallagher’s future now remains uncertain.
Atletico Madrid, in preparation for Omorodion’s departure, had already agreed on an £82m deal with Manchester City for Julian Alvarez as a replacement. Despite the setback with Omorodion, City still expects the Alvarez transfer to go through, with the striker reportedly in Madrid for a medical following his post-Copa America holiday.
Chelsea, in the meantime, has been active in the transfer market, unveiling Wolves winger Pedro Neto as their 10th signing of the summer. However, the collapse of the Omorodion deal has thrown a wrench into their plans, particularly concerning Gallagher, who had other interest from Premier League clubs but had been set on a move to Atletico.
