Rory McIlroy is set to make a final push for a record fourth FedExCup victory as the PGA Tour season draws to a close. Despite securing two PGA Tour wins this year, McIlroy has yet to add a major title to his collection since 2014.
Currently ranked third in the FedExCup standings, McIlroy is determined to turn what he describes as a “pretty good year” into a “very good year” with a strong finish. His recent performances have included victories at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic and the Wells Fargo Championship, but he’s faced challenges in the majors, including a notable runner-up finish at the US Open.
Heading into the FedExCup Playoffs, McIlroy acknowledges his recent near-misses and the need to refine his game. “I’ve had opportunities to win more, but I’ve come up short,” he said. “There’s still a chance to change the narrative and make the most of the remaining tournaments.”
McIlroy’s season has had ups and downs, with strong performances in various events but also some disappointing results, such as missing the cut at The Open. He recognizes the need to improve his performance under pressure and is focused on finishing the season on a high note.
As he prepares for the FedExCup Playoffs, McIlroy is hopeful that his recent strong play and experience will propel him to success. “I need to finish off tournaments better,” he admitted. “It’s been a good year, but not quite good enough to take home the silverware. That’s my challenge now.”
