Liverpool’s Paddy Pimblett, known for his confident persona in the ring, has candidly discussed his recent mental health challenges in an interview with Sky Sports. Despite his brash image, Pimblett revealed that he nearly withdrew from his upcoming fight against Bobby Green at UFC 304 in Manchester due to depression.
Pimblett shared that about five or six weeks ago, his coach considered pulling him out of the fight because he was not in the right mental state. Although he is in peak physical condition, personal issues and a bout of depression made this training camp feel like the worst of his life. However, Pimblett’s positive attitude and determination helped him push through.
He emphasized the importance of seeking help and speaking up about mental health struggles. Pimblett himself reached out for counseling to improve his mental state. He urged others facing similar issues to talk to someone rather than suffer in silence, highlighting the tragic impact of untreated mental health problems.
Pimblett’s openness about his struggles aims to break the stigma around mental health, especially among men. He believes that using his platform to spread awareness can encourage others to seek help and support.
