Novak Djokovic Faces Uncertain Future After Tough 2024 Season

After a stellar 2023 where Novak Djokovic won three of the four Grand Slams, his 2024 season has been marked by surprising defeats and injuries. The 37-year-old Serbian, who has long been considered tennis’ indestructible man, failed to reach a single final this year until Wimbledon, where he lost to 21-year-old Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets.

Djokovic’s year began with a quarter-final loss to Alex de Minaur at the United Cup, followed by a semi-final defeat to Jannik Sinner at the Australian Open. He then suffered an unexpected third-round exit at Indian Wells to Luca Nardi and withdrew from the Miami Open. Further losses came at the Monte Carlo Masters, Italian Open, and Geneva Open, where he struggled with injuries and form.

At the French Open, Djokovic reached the quarter-finals but withdrew due to a knee injury, which required surgery. Despite a rapid recovery, his performance at Wimbledon was below his usual standard, culminating in a dominant loss to Alcaraz in the final.

Djokovic admitted his form has significantly declined and acknowledged the possibility of retirement. His next goal is the Olympics, a title he has yet to win, but his future in tennis remains uncertain as he faces the challenges of age and fitness.
