Mongolia’s national uniforms for the Paris 2024 Olympics have become an internet sensation, surpassing designs by brands like Lululemon, Berluti, and Ralph Lauren. The outfits, created by Ulaanbaatar-based label Michel&Amazonka, feature intricately embroidered vests, pleated robes, and accessories inspired by traditional Mongolian attire. The designs incorporate national colors and motifs, including the “Soyombo” symbol from the Mongolian flag, as well as elements related to Paris and the Olympics.
Unveiled through a series of glossy photos and a video shoot, the uniforms have received widespread praise on social media, particularly on TikTok. Fashion and sports commentators have lauded the designs, with some declaring Mongolia the winner of the Olympics even before the games have started.
Michel&Amazonka, founded by sisters Michel and Amazonka Choigaalaa, previously designed Mongolia’s outfits for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics. Each outfit took an average of 20 hours to craft, according to the Mongolian National Olympic Committee.
Mongolia, which has participated in all but one Summer Olympics since 1964, will send over 30 athletes to compete in nine sports at the Paris Olympics, starting on July 26. Other countries have also revealed their uniforms, with Berluti designing for France, Ralph Lauren for Team USA, and Ben Sherman for Great Britain.
