Matt Kuchar Apologizes for Solo Finish at Wyndham Championship, Acknowledges Mistake

Matt Kuchar has issued an apology after opting to finish his round solo on Monday at the Wyndham Championship. The American golfer was the only player who returned to Sedgefield Country Club to complete his round following a weather delay. Kuchar, who had parred the 18th hole, missed the FedExCup Playoffs for the first time in his career.

The decision to return on Monday was due to Kuchar’s tee shot on the 18th hole veering into the trees, while his playing partners, Max Greyserman and Chad Ramey, continued despite fading daylight. Kuchar explained that he chose to finish alone to avoid further complicating the situation for his competitors, especially after seeing Greyserman struggle on the 16th hole.

In a statement after his round, Kuchar expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and acknowledged the negative perception of his decision. He admitted that he understood the frustration it caused and apologized to the tournament and all involved for making them return to the course for just one player.

Kuchar was aware of the backlash his choice received but noted that he tries to stay away from social media reactions. The FedExCup Playoffs are set to begin on Thursday, live on Sky Sports from 5pm.
