Justin Rose Secures Spot at The Open, Sergio Garcia Misses Out Again

Justin Rose has successfully qualified for The Open at Royal Troon, continuing his streak of appearances since 2007, barring his absence in 2022 due to injury. The 43-year-old former US Open champion finished eight under par over 36 holes at Burnham Burrow in Somerset, tying with Englishman Dominic Clemons for a spot at Troon.

Rose expressed his excitement and determination to win The Open, stating that being part of the tournament is crucial to pursuing that dream. He remains optimistic about his chances, despite recent challenges at major tournaments.

In contrast, Sergio Garcia fell short of qualifying for the second consecutive year. At West Lancashire near Liverpool, Garcia finished two strokes behind the top four. His participation in LIV Golf has affected his world ranking, leaving The Masters as the only major he qualifies for based on his past championship.

Despite his status, Garcia faced difficulties with the large crowds following him, leading to delays and a warning for falling behind schedule. Garcia felt this was unfair and contributed to crucial dropped shots that cost him a chance at Troon.

Garcia aimed to qualify for his 100th major, a milestone he now hopes to achieve at Augusta National next year. Meanwhile, other qualifiers included Royal Liverpool amateur Matthew Dodd-Berry, DP World Tour professionals Dan Brown and Masahiro Kawamura, and Englishman Matthew Southgate, who secured the top spot at Royal Cinque Ports.

At Dundonald Links, England’s Sam Hutsby led the qualifiers, with Spaniard Angel Hidalgo and Irish amateur Liam Nolan also securing their places, and Scot Jack McDonald winning a playoff to join them at The Open.
