Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt is reportedly eager to join Manchester United, with preliminary discussions already underway with his current club, Bayern Munich. Sky in Germany suggests that de Ligt, who is 24 years old, could be acquired for a fee of €50 million, plus additional performance-related payments.
Manchester United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, who previously managed de Ligt at Ajax, is said to be interested in bringing the player to Old Trafford for the upcoming season.
In other transfer news, Manchester United’s interest in English defender Jarrad Branthwaite remains, although a deal would only proceed if Everton lowers their price, as the club is not under pressure to sell.
Additionally, Manchester United is negotiating a one-year contract extension with 36-year-old defender Jonny Evans, who led the team in Premier League appearances last season. Evans, who returned to United last year, is in discussions to extend his stay at the club.
