Meanwhile, Amanda Anisimova, ranked 132nd in the world, continued her remarkable run by defeating Emma Navarro 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 in the semifinals. Anisimova, who has already taken down four top-20 players, including world No. 3 Aryna Sabalenka, will be the lowest-ranked finalist in the Canadian Open in 40 years. Although Pegula leads their head-to-head 2-0, Anisimova has shown she can push the defending champion to the brink.
Anisimova expressed her joy and surprise at making it this far, saying, “This is a huge accomplishment for me, and something I’ve been working really hard towards… I’m still hungry for more.”
Men’s Final: On the men’s side, unseeded Alexei Popyrin will face fifth seed Andrey Rublev.
