Andy Murray Sidelines Monte Carlo and BMW Open Due to Ankle Injury from Miami Open

Andy Murray, the former world No. 1 and two-time Wimbledon champion, will miss the upcoming Monte Carlo Masters and the BMW Open in Munich due to an ankle injury sustained during the Miami Open.

The 36-year-old Scotsman suffered the injury during his third-round match against Tomas Machac at the Miami Open, where he fell to the floor in pain late in the match. Despite receiving on-court treatment, Murray revealed on Instagram that he had sustained serious damage to ligaments in his left ankle.

In a statement released by Murray’s management team, it was announced that he has made the decision to withdraw from both the Monte Carlo Masters and the BMW Open as the extent of his injury and recovery timeline remains uncertain. Murray expressed his determination to return to action as soon as possible, but emphasized the need for ongoing consultation with his medical team.

The absence from these tournaments comes as a disappointment for Murray, who had recently shown signs of improvement by winning back-to-back matches for the first time this year in Miami. With less than 10 weeks until the start of the British grass-court season and over three months until Wimbledon, Murray’s participation in these events hangs in the balance, pending further evaluation of his injury.

Despite the setback, Murray remains focused on his recovery and expressed gratitude for the support from his fans. Updates on his condition and potential return to competition will be provided as the situation evolves.

The Monte Carlo Masters and BMW Open Munich are scheduled to take place between April 7-14 and April 15-21 respectively, with coverage available on Sky Sports Tennis. Murray’s absence leaves a void in the tournaments, but fans eagerly await his return to the court once he has fully recuperated from his injury.
