Aaron Rai secured his first PGA Tour victory at the Wyndham Championship, finishing two shots ahead of the competition. Rai shot a remarkable six-under 64 in the final round, bringing his total to 18 under for the tournament. This triumph marks a significant milestone for the English golfer, who had previously come close to victory on the North American circuit but had not yet clinched a title.
The story of the day, however, was the dramatic collapse of Max Greyserman. Leading by four shots midway through the back nine, Greyserman seemed poised for victory after holing out for an eagle on the 13th hole. But disaster struck on the next hole, where he suffered a quadruple bogey after driving out of bounds. A subsequent double bogey on the 16th hole, where he four-putted, sealed his fate. Despite a late birdie on the 15th, Greyserman could only manage a one-under 69, finishing outright second at 16 under.
Rai, who had been trailing behind, capitalized on Greyserman’s misfortune with a series of birdies, including one on his final hole. This victory adds to his previous successes on the DP World Tour, where he won the Hong Kong Open in 2018 and the Scottish Open in 2020.
The tournament’s final leaderboard saw J.J. Spaun and Ryo Hisatsume tied for third place, three strokes behind Rai. Meanwhile, Matt Kuchar, who led halfway through the tournament, finished tied for 12th. Kuchar’s failure to win means he will miss out on the FedExCup Playoffs for the first time since their inception in 2007, ending a remarkable streak.
Aaron Rai’s victory at the Wyndham Championship not only cements his place in the golfing world but also demonstrates his resilience and determination in the face of intense competition.
