Josh Kelly Gears Up for Tough Liam Smith Challenge on Joshua vs. Dubois Undercard

Josh Kelly is preparing for a significant test as he faces former world champion Liam Smith on September 21, as part of the undercard for the Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois fight at Wembley Stadium. After a string of victories following his 2021 loss to David Avanesyan, Kelly aims to prove he’s ready to compete at the highest level.

Kelly’s trainer, Adam Booth, believes his fighter has matured significantly since his defeat to Avanesyan. Booth highlights Kelly’s impressive win over Troy Williamson for the British title as a sign of his progress. “Josh is in his prime… he’s learned a lot about himself,” Booth said, noting that Kelly is now ready to showcase his full potential.

Smith, a seasoned fighter with a resume that includes bouts against Canelo Alvarez and a recent split with Chris Eubank Jr., poses a formidable challenge. Known for his aggressive style and ability to apply pressure, Smith will test whether Kelly has addressed any lingering flaws.

Despite Kelly having never fought above super-welterweight, Booth insists that size won’t be a disadvantage. “Josh is a very big 154lbs… I think people will be surprised when the fight starts Josh will be the one that looks bigger,” Booth stated.

Kelly, often seen as a stylist rather than a power puncher, might surprise fans with his evolved skill set. Booth promises a more dangerous version of Kelly in the ring, suggesting that his fighter has grown both mentally and physically since his last major outing.

The upcoming fight against Smith is viewed as a crucial moment for Kelly to silence any doubts and prove he belongs among boxing’s elite. Booth remains confident, saying, “When a talent like Josh Kelly does fulfil its potential, it does go to the highest level.”
