By Manchester City’s Phil Foden and Bunny Shaw emerged as the major winners at the 2024 PFA awards, securing the men’s and women’s PFA Player of the Year titles, respectively.
Foden, at 24, played a pivotal role in City’s fourth consecutive Premier League triumph, contributing 19 goals and 8 assists. His outstanding performance throughout the season earned him this prestigious recognition from his fellow players.
Bunny Shaw, the Jamaican forward, topped the Women’s Super League scoring charts with 21 goals, though Manchester City narrowly missed out on the title to Chelsea on goal difference.
Chelsea’s Cole Palmer was honored as the PFA Young Player of the Year in the men’s category, following a stellar season where he scored 22 goals, second only to City’s Erling Haaland, and provided 11 assists, more than any other Chelsea player. On the women’s side, Manchester United’s Grace Clinton received the Young Player of the Year award after a strong showing during her loan spell at Tottenham, where she contributed four goals and four assists in 20 appearances.
Fara Williams, England’s most capped player with 172 appearances and 40 goals, was one of two recipients of the PFA Merit Award. Williams, who played a key role in England’s third-place finish at the 2015 World Cup and represented Team GB at the 2012 London Olympics, was recognized for her outstanding career.
Dean Lewington, who set the EFL record for most appearances with a single club, playing his 771st match for MK Dons in December, was the other Merit Award recipient.
In the Championship, West Ham’s new signing Crysencio Summerville was named Player of the Year after scoring 21 goals for Leeds United, despite their narrow miss on promotion in the play-off final. Alfie May, now with Birmingham, won the League One award for his 23-goal season with Charlton, while Notts County’s Jodi Jones took home the League Two prize for providing a record-breaking 24 assists in the Magpies’ first season back in the EFL since 2018-19.
