The Canadian Open is set for an exciting conclusion with defending champion Jessica Pegula facing off against surprise finalist Amanda Anisimova in the women’s final, while Alexei Popyrin and Andrey Rublev will battle for the men’s title.
Women’s Final: Jessica Pegula, the current titleholder, secured her spot in the final with a solid 6-4, 6-3 win over Diana Shnaider. Meanwhile, Amanda Anisimova, ranked 132nd in the world, continued her remarkable run by defeating Emma Navarro 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 in the semifinals. Anisimova, who has already taken down four top-20 players, including world No. 3 Aryna Sabalenka, will be the lowest-ranked finalist in the Canadian Open in 40 years. Although Pegula leads their head-to-head 2-0, Anisimova has shown she can push the defending champion to the brink.
Anisimova expressed her joy and surprise at making it this far, saying, “This is a huge accomplishment for me, and something I’ve been working really hard towards… I’m still hungry for more.”
Men’s Final: On the men’s side, unseeded Alexei Popyrin will face fifth seed Andrey Rublev. Popyrin reached his first Masters 1000 final by ending Sebastian Korda’s eight-match winning streak, securing a 7-6 (7-0), 6-3 victory. Rublev advanced to the final with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Matteo Arnaldi. Both players will be looking to capture their first Canadian Open title in what promises to be an intense final.
The women’s final will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Tennis at 11 pm on Monday, with the men’s final following at 12:30 am on Tuesday.
