Milan’s Menswear Embraces La Dolce Vita with a Nostalgic Twist

Milan Fashion Week’s Spring-Summer 2025 collections were a tribute to Italy’s idyllic seaside life, with designers drawing inspiration from the nation’s picturesque beaches and the quintessential Italian summer.

MSGM marked its 15th anniversary with a collection that channeled beach-resort vibes, featuring sun-dyed stripes and playful sea creature motifs. Designer Massimo Giorgetti, hailing from Rimini, infused his work with the essence of the Ligurian Coast, capturing the allure of its landscape in his designs.

Dolce & Gabbana’s “Italian Beauty” collection paid homage to the luxurious coastal lifestyle, incorporating raffia and coral embroidery reminiscent of the treasures found in Capri and Portofino’s jewelry stores. The designers reflected on the Grand Tour’s tradition, celebrating Italy as a timeless summer retreat through their use of opulent materials and relaxed silhouettes.

Gucci’s Sabato de Sarno blended urban sophistication with beach culture, creating a collection that spoke to the joyful encounters between city dwellers and the seaside. His designs featured sharp tailoring alongside playful prints of dolphins and surfers, capturing the spirit of a carefree summer.

Prada explored themes of youthful exuberance and freedom, presenting a collection titled “Closer” that juxtaposed crisp shirting with whimsical prints. Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons aimed to craft garments that were both playful and practical, embodying a sense of spontaneity and optimism.

JW Anderson and Moschino both celebrated the simple joys of life, with Anderson’s knits depicting charming British homes and Moschino’s Adrian Appiolaza showcasing postcard prints and Italian tablescape scenes. These collections embraced a return to the familiar and the serene, offering a sartorial escape to the countryside.

Fila+ and Fendi both presented collections that resonated with a sense of community and heritage. Fila+’s Lev Tanju recreated a nostalgic Italian home setting, while Fendi’s Silvia Fendi drew upon the brand’s history, featuring a crest designed by Karl Lagerfeld that symbolized a balance between tradition and innovation.

The Milan shows were a collective celebration of the Italian dolce vita, blending nostalgia with a forward-looking vision, and offering a wardrobe that’s as much about storytelling as it is about style.
