Jack Draper has advanced to the quarter-finals of the Stuttgart Open after a hard-fought victory against American player Marcos Giron. Draper, who is on the verge of becoming the top British male tennis player, is back in form after missing last year’s grass-court season due to injury.
In the match, Draper initially secured the first set 6-4, breaking Giron’s serve in the fifth game. Giron, however, made a comeback in the second set, saving five break points and eventually winning it 6-3. The final set saw Draper regain control and secure a 6-3 win, concluding the match with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
Reflecting on his performance, Draper acknowledged the quality of his first set and Giron’s strong response in the second. He expressed satisfaction with his mental fortitude throughout the match, especially considering Giron’s previous victory over Andy Murray.
Draper’s next challenge will be against Frances Tiafoe, the defending champion, who recently defeated Yannick Hanfmann. Additionally, Italian fifth seed Lorenzo Musetti will face Alexander Bublik in the quarter-finals after both secured their spots with respective wins.
