By Dmitriy Salita, promoter for American MMA fighter Claressa Shields, has stated that Shields will not be fighting Savannah Marshall in the UK. Instead, Marshall is expected to face Shields in the US or at a neutral venue. This announcement comes after Marshall’s victorious MMA debut in the Professional Fighters League and their previous boxing match where Shields emerged victorious.
Salita highlights the thriving rivalry between the two athletes, which transcends sports and is a driving force in women’s boxing. He points out that Shields has already competed in the UK, defeating Marshall, and now it’s Marshall’s turn to make the journey for their MMA bout.
While an MMA fight is anticipated, Salita also believes a boxing rematch is likely. Shields, however, is currently focused on her upcoming boxing match against WBC heavyweight champion Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse, aiming for a title in a fourth weight class.
Salita is also interested in organizing a 5 vs 5 tournament featuring his promotional stable, potentially against BOXXER, with the Shields vs. Marshall fight possibly headlining the event.
