Iga Swiatek, the world’s top-ranked tennis player, effortlessly advanced to the quarter-finals of the French Open, delivering a flawless performance against Anastasia Potapova with a 6-0, 6-0 win. The match, which lasted a mere 40 minutes, is one of the quickest in the tournament’s history.
Swiatek’s precision was on full display as she committed only two unforced errors compared to Potapova’s 19 and won an impressive 94% of the points on her first serve. Potapova, only 23 years old, managed to win just 10 of the 58 points played.
Swiatek, a three-time French Open champion, expressed her focus during the match, noting the early start and the open roof conditions. Despite the unusual weather for the season, she remained undeterred.
Potapova, experiencing her first second-week appearance at a Grand Slam, struggled to find her rhythm against Swiatek’s relentless play. The Russian did manage to land a few winners, but Swiatek’s near-perfect execution quickly closed the first set in 19 minutes.
The audience at Court Philippe-Chatrier rallied behind Potapova, yet Swiatek maintained her composure, capitalizing on her opponent’s errors to secure an early lead. The only challenge Swiatek faced was the wind affecting her serve, a minor obstacle in an otherwise dominant performance.
Swiatek concluded the match with a decisive victory, setting up a quarter-final clash with Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova, who secured her spot with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Olga Danilovic. Swiatek’s win solidifies her position as a formidable contender for the title.
