Bivol Triumphs Over Zinad, Sets Stage for Beterbiev Bout

Dmitry Bivol showcased his readiness for the anticipated fight against Artur Beterbiev by securing a decisive sixth-round stoppage against Malik Zinad. Maintaining his undefeated streak, Bivol, the WBA and IBO titleholder, was originally set to challenge the holder of the WBC, WBO, and IBF titles, Beterbiev, for the undisputed light-heavyweight title. However, Beterbiev’s injury led to a postponement.

Bivol adapted his tactics for Zinad, demonstrating his professionalism and versatility. Following his victory, Turki Al-Sheikh, the head of Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Entertainment, announced that Bivol and Beterbiev would face off on October 12, marking the start of Riyadh Season.

With a record now at 23-0, Bivol achieved his first stoppage win since 2018, breaking a series of unanimous decision wins. He expressed confidence in his consistent power throughout his career.

The fight revealed a significant skill gap, with Bivol knocking down Zinad, who was previously undefeated, with a powerful left hook early in the match. Despite Zinad’s aggressive approach and hand speed, Bivol’s precise counters and formidable stance led to a bloodied nose and an eventual overpowering of Zinad.

Bivol’s strategic fighting and powerful combinations culminated in a series of blows that prompted the referee to end the match, setting the stage for the upcoming showdown with Beterbiev.
