The incident, which Scheffler described as a “big misunderstanding” amid a “very chaotic situation,” led to charges including second-degree assault of a police officer and reckless driving.
Mayor Craig Greenberg emphasized the importance of such reviews, stating that transparency and action are necessary if policies were not followed. Police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel indicated that an update on the internal investigation would be provided soon, with any policy violations to be addressed according to the department’s disciplinary protocol.
Scheffler’s arraignment has been rescheduled to June 3, a change from the original date of May 21. Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell’s office is continuing to gather information, while Scheffler’s legal team is prepared to go to trial if necessary, maintaining his innocence.
