Amidst the ongoing conflict in her homeland, Palestinian fashion designer Sineen Kharoub showcased her collection, “From Dust to Light,” at Modest Fashion Week in Istanbul. Symbolizing hope and resilience, her designs feature motifs from the Palestinian flag and keffiyeh patterns, reflecting her commitment to her roots despite the challenging circumstances.
Presenting her brand, Sineen Haute Couture’s wedding and evening dresses for the first time at the show, Kharoub expressed happiness and pride in sharing her creations with the world.
Living in Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, Kharoub is no stranger to the tensions and hardships faced by Palestinians. However, she remains steadfast in her belief in hope, resilience, and the strength of her community to endure and persevere through adversity.
In a poignant display of symbolism, some of Kharoub’s designs featured models wearing keys tied to their wrists, symbolizing the aspiration for the opening of new homes once peace is restored.
The audience responded with applause and cheers, recognizing the significance and beauty of Kharoub’s collection in the face of adversity.
Organizer Ozlem Sahin Ertas praised Kharoub as the guest of honor, highlighting the theme of this year’s event, “A unique fashion call for solidarity.” The Modest Fashion Week aims to showcase the unifying power of fashion and promote support and collaboration among designers.
In addition to Kharoub, designers like Sarah Shahade from the United States contributed to the diverse and inspiring collection of designs, underscoring the event’s celebration of Islamic and modest fashion.
