By Ludvig Åberg and Wyndham Clark are the latest additions to TGL, the innovative simulator golf league founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy set to launch in January 2025.
Åberg’s announcement coincided with his withdrawal from the Wells Fargo Championship due to a knee issue, affecting his final preparation before the PGA Championship.
TGL, backed by Woods and McIlroy’s TMRW Sports venture, features 24 PGA Tour players competing in six teams, with Åberg and Clark joining Shane Lowry and Min Woo Lee at the California-based Bay Golf Club, owned by Marc Lasry along with NBA stars Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Andre Iguodala.
Each team represents different locations, fostering international camaraderie among players. Clark expressed confidence in their team’s dynamic and anticipates an exciting season ahead.
The league’s launch was postponed to 2025 after venue damage at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, last November. Matches will commence in January 2025, with the schedule to be announced later.
TGL combines a state-of-the-art simulator with actual shots to create a unique golfing experience aimed at engaging a broader audience. Teams will compete over 15 holes, with the top four advancing to the semi-finals and the season culminating in a best-of-three final.
Woods and McIlroy are not only players but also owners of teams: Woods represents Jupiter Links Golf Club, while McIlroy leads Boston Common Golf. Other notable players include Collin Morikawa, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Justin Thomas, each contributing to the league’s star-studded lineup.
